The construction of the dam started in 1954 on the Vltava. The crest of the dam was finished in 1962 and it is 450 m long and 91,5 m high.
The whole reservoir is 60 km long and 71 m deep.
The area of the reservoir is 2.640 ha with the volume 704 mil. cubic m of water - the largest dam reservoir in this country.
The water power plant is situated in an independent building and it comprises 4 Kaplan turbines. The dam has no lock chamber, but it has two oblique hoists for boats. In operation is just one small hoist for sport boats. The reservoir meets the function of protection against floods, of recreation and for getting energy.
