Ing. Michal Novák, Potatoes from Šiškovice [ Regionální výrobce nebo produkt ]
Ing. Michal Novák can be seen as a young newcomer to a farmer's community but nonetheless, he continues as the third generation of his farming family. Hi works with 100 ha of land of which it is 70 ha arable and the rest is permanent grassland. In addition to potatoes, he grows cereals and oilseeds, mainly poppies, which you can also buy on the farm. The animal production is dedicated to fattening bulls for meat.
On the farm in Šiškovice, the sale of potatoes has been a tradition since the nineties. They grow potatoes on 2 ha. Unfortunately, due to the poor stony soil, there is nowhere for potato planting to expand. However, there are three fields that produce great potatoes.
Growing potatoes is more physically demanding than growing grains but they are a better commodity. At the moment, the farm offer for sale about 5 varieties of late-eating potatoes every autumn. They offer the classic yellows but also one red variety of cooking types mainly A and B.
Among the varieties, Michal Novák prefers Antonia, a yellow cooking potato type A, B, from which practically everything can be made and the variety Red Anna. This is an excellent potato for salad.
The producer received the Iron Mountains regional product certificate for his potatoes during the spring certification of 2024.
The sale takes place directly from the yard, where the potatoes are also picked up and bagged. The farm has its regular customers, but new ones come every year. They have been recording telephone orders for the delivery of potatoes since May.
